On Thursday April 29, 2010, Southern Local School District held its annual Academic Awards Banquet. This year’s theme was “Go For the Gold”. We honored 89 students from grades fourth through twelfth for their academic achievements. Superintendent, Tony Deem, recognized the students and their parents as Southern Local Board President, Mr. Dennie Hill, presented the students with their medal. Our guest speaker was Mrs. Cindy Noble-Hauserman (1980 Olympic Gold Medalist). Mr. Robert Beegle presented the Rotary Club Academic Awards. The banquet was organized by: Tony Deem, Daniel Otto, Kent Wolfe, Scott Wolfe, Kim Romine, Debra Wallace (who did a great job with the decorations), Jennifer Holt, Beth Bay, Rachel Hupp, and Kelly Pape. Other important contributors consisted of Vicki Northup, Ruth Shain, Alice Williams, Alan Crisp, and Kathy Pickens. Food was served by the high school teachers and Evelyn Stanley. Donations where made by: Southern Elementary K-8 PTO, SHS Band Boosters, SHS Athletic Boosters, RACO, AEP Sporn Plant, SLEA, SLOAPSE, Home National Bank, Farmers Bank, People’s Bank, Mr. & Mrs. Pete Theorn, Mr. John Ihle, Darrell Norris and Son Greenhouses, Never Dunn Farm, Bob’s Market & Greenhouses, and Roush Brother’s Farm and Greenhouses.
The banquet was a great success and we would like all the staff members of Southern Local, the students, the parents, and those that made donations for making it a great success.
